Selfies To Savor

Who is up for a Challenge???!!??

I am kicking off a quick and easy 5 day photo challenge. Starting Monday, November 24th and running through Friday, November 28th.

This is for anyone who wants to

  • Cultivate gratitude

  • Stay present in the moment

  • Own your brave, bold, and beautiful self

This is the #Selfiestosavor Gratitude Challenge

The idea is to

  • Take one or more pictures a day of what you want to savor this week. Let's linger in the gratitude.

  • Make sure YOU, yes you darling, are in this picture. Whether you are holding the camera at arms length or someone else takes the pic for you, just make sure you are in it! (This is especially for all of us who tend to run from the camera. You know who you are!)

  • Post these pics on Instagram or Facebook and be sure to use the hashtag #selfiestosavor AND tag me at @beccadegeilh

To all of you people that just heard the word selfie and wanted to bail already....I promise, there is something here for you. PLEASE KEEP READING!

I am NOT a selfie chick. At. All. Honestly, I cringe a bit at the idea. My initial quick judgement is that they are self centered and obnoxious. EEK. But that is just my high and mighty judger speaking. And really, she is just scared of you judging her SO she tries to judge first. She's a snot. I am not listening to her today :)

Truth is I hate getting in front of the camera at all. There are not many pics of me in this world. There is little proof of me being at family celebrations, vacations, or just the day to day stuff. I can't help but think, my kids are getting the crap end of the stick here. They are going to want to have these memories someday. I am going to want to look back on these memories someday.

When my mother in law passed away and we were putting together a photo collage of pictures of her with the family, I was heartbroken to realize there were not any, at all, of me with her. Ugh. Eye opener for sure.

The idea for this challenge was with a specific goal in mind. I want us all to, both focus on the gift of gratitude AND, get over our selves. This isn't about looking beautiful and putting on a show for social media world. It's the opposite actually. This is about finding the gratitude in the little real life moments and showing up exactly how we are and who we are in those moments.

It's those moments when we are in the kitchen smelling the yumminess of family traditions being prepared for us to enjoy only at this time of year (even if we are still in our PJs from the night before),

the messy bedrooms, living room sofas, and laundry rooms all signs of our homes being filled with the people in our tribe (even if the shot shows the unpainted molding and we are looking spent),

the moment our kids finally fall alseep after the hour long, up too late, too much sugar meltdown (even when we look like we really did just endure that meltdown),

the simple, quiet, peaceful, solo walk you take to process (even if you are feeling overwhelmed, cranky from too much togetherness, or lonely from not enough),

the late night plop into a warm bed after a day of running all over the place (because, dammit, we have a warm bed and it just doesn't matter what we look like, we are blessed)

........you get the idea.

I see these #selfiestosavour as being ones of authentic ownership of our crazy messy awesome lives just as they are today. Sharing this gut level gratitude to inspire one another to look for it in the not so obvious places.

This is it people. This is Thanksgiving 2014. Don't let it pass by. Let's show up for it. Let's step into this upcoming week with a new kind of presence and let's spread the love.

If you are game, please share this. Spread the word. I am so looking forward to being inspired by your gratitude. I want to savour this holiday with you!

Again......

Challenge begins Monday, November 24th. You can post as many #selftiestosavor through Friday, November 28th.

I can't wait!!!
