Dear Moms of little girls,
I have a request. Today I am asking you, in honor of your girls, to take on this 24 hour challenge. Today will not be about “shoulds” or “somedays”. It is not about what has been or what will always be. It is only about right now. This is just for today. Nothing more, nothing less.
Why?
You woke up today. Right there, enough to celebrate. You have a brand spanking new 24 hours ahead of you. Yesterday? Right now take a big slow deep breath. As you exhale drop your shoulders, soften your forehead and get yourself present. Today you have another chance. Today could be amazing. Today could be a day for miracles.
Today your little girl woke up too. Your little girl, that little bundle of light you get to mother, is very much full of life today. That right there... miracle. She, too, has those same brand new 24 hours. Today she will dream, learn, and process new experiences. Today she is watching you. Today she will take in your words, moods, and how you move through your day. Today you get to choose what she learns from you.
Here’s the challenge. JUST FOR TODAY…..
· Look at yourself in the mirror and admire your beauty. I don’t care how uncomfortable it may feel at first (or even the whole time) just do it. You really are beautiful. Let me repeat that so you can take a minute and let that sink in. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. Say it to yourself like you would to your little girl. Right now, in this skin you are in at this very moment, you shine sista. Just for today, rock what you got.
· Apologize to your body. Take a minute, or more if needed, to acknowledge the unfair hurt. Say you are sorry for the times you took your body for granted, made fun of, belittled, or shamed your body. Just for today, only speak and think about your body with the utmost respect.
· Thank your body for all that it has done and still does. Weather it is dancing, playing, carrying and birthing your babies, being able to hug your kiddos, loving your partner like only you can, laughing with your sisters, long walks with your friends, or just simply the gift of breath. Take the time to say thank you. Just for today appreciate your body.
· Show your body some serious love. Feed it nourishing fresh foods. Drink lots of water. Move in a way that feels fabulous. Rest if that is what is needed. Just for today, listen to and HONOR your body.
· Today, when you pick your little girl up from school or practice or when she comes down the stairs at home, greet her with a psyched to see her smile and a kiss on the forehead. (I’m telling you, kisses on the forehead are magic) Just for today, pour love on her.
· Take a few minutes to ask her how her day was. Sit down next to or across from her. No distractions. Look her in the eye and listen to whatever she wants to talk about. Let her lead. Be there with her fully in that moment. Just for today, show up in a big way and give her the gift of presence.
· Be an example of compassion, love, and acceptance. Choose your words carefully. Treat everyone you come into contact with today with respect and kindness. Show her what service means. Just for today, be her role model and her hero.
· Tell her a story about when you were her age. Let her in on a secret. Share a dream you have. Let her see who you are. Just for today, let her in and connect with your heart.
· Acknowledge her light, your light, THE light. Whatever your spiritual beliefs are, share them. Invite her in. Go where she invites you. Just for today, practice your faith together.
Today, your little girl needs you. You only have today.
Shine on ladies.
With love,
Becca
